What are cookies?

As well as cookies, Northants 1 uses your browser's local storage in some parts of the site. Local storage works in a similar way to cookies: it saves small pieces of information in your browser. Unlike cookies, it is never sent to our servers automatically.

How we use cookies

Northants 1 uses a small number of cookies and local storage items to make the site work properly. We don't use advertising cookies, we don't track you across other websites, and we never sell your data to third parties.

Here's what we use and why.

Essential cookies and storage

These are needed for the site to work. Without them, things like the audio player and your preferences won't work. You can't opt out of essential cookies, but they only do what's needed to run the site.

Some of these names start with "peak-" because Northants 1 runs on the same website platform as our sister station, Peak Radio.

All of the storage items above except the cookies stay on your device. They are never sent to our servers automatically, shared with third parties or used for advertising.

Audience questions

We sometimes ask visitors a few optional questions about their age range, gender and where they live. Your answers are not linked to your browsing activity, an account or a device identifier.

So that we don't keep showing you the questions, your browser may store a small local storage entry called rivet_audience. It records that you've answered them or chosen "Not now".

This entry does not contain your answers or any personal information. It is used only to decide whether to show the audience questions again. You can remove it at any time by clearing Northants 1's stored website data in your browser.

Analytics cookies (optional)

If you accept optional cookies, we may use basic analytics to understand how people use the site, such as which pages are most popular or whether the guide section is being used. This helps us make Northants 1 better for Kettering, Corby and the rest of Northamptonshire.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our website. It collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you spend on the site and how you arrived. This data is anonymised and aggregated, so we can't identify you from it.

You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time by declining optional cookies on this site, or by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without using cookies and without identifying individual visitors.

What we don't do

To be clear, Northants 1 does not:

• use advertising or tracking cookies

• share cookie data with advertisers

• build profiles of individual listeners

• use third-party social media cookies

Your choices

When you first visit Northants 1, you'll see a cookie banner with two options:

• Accept all allows essential cookies and optional analytics cookies.

• Essential only allows only the cookies needed to make the site work. The site still works perfectly; we just won't have any usage data.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site, where the banner will appear again.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you see which cookies are stored and delete them individually. For guidance, visit www.aboutcookies.org.

Note: clearing your browser's local storage will reset your player volume, song votes and other saved preferences.

Third-party services

Northants 1 uses a small number of third-party services to deliver the website and live stream. These may set their own cookies or collect limited technical data:

• Cloudflare provides our media delivery, stream infrastructure and cookie-free visitor statistics.

• StreamUp delivers the Northants 1 live audio stream.

• Google Fonts provides some of the fonts on the site. When a page loads, your IP address is sent to Google as part of a standard web request.

• Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how visitors use the website. It is only used if you accept optional cookies.

These services operate under their own privacy policies. We've chosen providers with strong data practices and minimal data collection.

Updates to this policy

If we change how we use cookies in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and reset the cookie banner so you can make a fresh choice.
