Active fun days have been happening throughout August, which have been hosted by North Northamptonshire Council (NNC).
Every Wednesday, NNC has been partnering with local organisations and foundations to host free family events.
So far, these events have taken place in Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden.
“The events help raise awareness of community resources, encourage participation in physical activity, and provide opportunities for families to connect with local organisations in a fun and welcoming environment.”
Said Matt Howling, Community and Marketing Specialist for North Northamptonshire Council.
Despite only three out of the four events taking place so far, there has already been over 10,000 attendees.
“Staff and partners have had many positive conversations with families and young people, who have enjoyed the opportunity to access a free day out and learn about local services and activities”.
“Feedback from attendees has regularly included comments such as, “I can’t believe this is all free,”highlighting how much families value the opportunity to access a high-quality, free community event”.
Activities that are ran by local organisations, such as punching focus pads from the GKR Karate Club, acts as a free taster session allowing young people to explore different sports and activities.
“A key focus of the Fun Days is to showcase local sports clubs and physical activity opportunities, enabling families and young people to try a variety of activities through free taster sessions”.
Families especially enjoyed this aspect, which proved to be a real highlight. Corby fun day attendee, Shelley Anne, said:
“My daughter had an amazing time and hasn’t stopped talking about it since”.
The final fun day is taking place on 26 August at North Park, Kettering, 12-4pm.
You can expect water slides, trampolines, kids soft play and stalls from local charities and organisations.
There will also be music, from Northants 1, and many more fun activities.
