In the coming weeks, residents will be given two brand-new bins: a smaller caddy designed for inside the kitchen, and a larger bin to be placed outside for collection. An information leaflet will also be included to explain exactly what can and cannot be recycled.
However, officials are urgently reminding locals not to put their new caddies out for collection just yet.
The highly anticipated service, backed by funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), is expected to begin in early autumn. Once the council confirms the exact start date, the caddies will be emptied weekly on residents' usual bin days.
Larger blocks of flats featuring more than five properties will be included in a later phase of the rollout. Meanwhile, residents in Corby and East Northants, who already receive weekly food waste collections, should continue using their service as normal.
"Residents in Kettering and Wellingborough areas have been keen to have food waste collections for some time and we’re nearly ready to roll out the service - keep an eye out for an exact start date,"
said Cllr Ken Harrington, the council’s Executive Member for Assets, Waste and Environmental Services.
“In the meantime, keep your new caddies safe and take a look at the information about what can be placed in your new bins.”
Upcoming Information Events in Kettering
To help residents get to grips with the new recycling scheme, the council's Waste team has been hosting a series of information roadshows. With Wellingborough's events having taken place earlier this month, the team will be heading to Kettering over the coming days to answer any questions:
Kettering Council Offices (Bowling Green Road): Monday 24 August, from 10am to 4pm
Family Fun Day at North Park, Kettering: Wednesday 26 August, from 11:15am to 4:30pm
What do you think of finally having weekly food waste collections in Kettering and Wellingborough?
