An Enhanced recovery team from Kettering General Hospital have been shortlisted for another two national awards.
The Enhanced Recovery Team will be attending the HSJ (Health Service Journal) awards ceremony finals after being nominated for two awards: Driving Efficiency Through Technology Award and Digitising Patient Care Award.
In July, KGH were shortlisted for the Technology and Data in Nursing Award by the Nursing Times Awards.
All awards were made possible due to the hospitals digitally enhanced care pathway.
An app named PostOp is being used by patients and the clinical team to monitor patients recovery after operations.
“The app technology helps us to capture information such as high-quality pictures of wounds, feedback on how people are feeling and their pain, it enables us to reassure patients they are experiencing what would be expected and their regular feedback helps us to spot any potential problems early”.
Said Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Melanie Moore.
The app is estimated to save up to almost £80,000 per 100 patients as it reduces readmissions and people going to the emergency department with concerns.
“Overall our enhanced recovery programme means our length of stay of colorectal cancer surgery is now 3.5days – the shortest in the country”.
Said Melanie.
Since PostOp was created in 2020, the app has shown to be a roaring success.
96% of app users who use the messaging tool have felt satisfied with the teams responses.
The finals for Nursing Times Awards are being held on 19 November 2026.
The finals for the HSJ awards are being held on the 29 October 2026.
