Radio Presenter 

Approx. Volunteer Hours per Week: 4.5

Brief description of role: Northants 1 is seeking dynamic presenters to be the heart of our community. You’ll inform, educate, and entertain our listeners through your weekly show, produced and presented from our state-of-the-art studios in Kettering. The successfull applicants will be able to relate to our target audience and also be willing to work cross platform with other audiences too. 

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about local causes, businesses, and most importantly, the people of Northamptonshire. Your role will be to champion everything our county has to offer. We’ll provide full training, so prior experience is welcome but not required.

Plus, you’ll get to be part of exciting local events and festivals, and our studios even have a dedicated space for live music performances… and a coffee machine, and a fridge full of drinks!

News & Journalism Manager (Leadership Team)

Brief description of role: NN Media Group is seeking a dynamic Head of News & Journalism to lead and elevate our local news and information coverage. In this pivotal role, you will shape our content strategy, lead and inspire a talented team of journalists, ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality news reporting, collaborate with key stakeholders, and stay ahead of industry trends to ensure our content remains relevant and impactful. Journalist

Brief description of role: Northants 1 is delighted to announce an exciting new opportunity for a passionate and innovative Journalist to spearhead our digital presence, bringing captivating stories from key areas such as Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Northampton, Daventry, Towcester, and beyond to life. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the Executive Team to curate and oversee a dynamic blog-style website, showcasing the vibrant fabric of our communities through compelling narratives about local events, news, and vital information. You’ll also work hand-in-hand with our Social Media team to amplify these stories across multiple platforms, ensuring their reach is maximized. Responsibilities you will hold as a team player,

  • Being the main point of contact for listeners, engaging with them and representing the station both in public and on air, making you the face of Northamptonshire’s community radio station
  • Undergoing any training required & engaging in voluntary training sessions ran by internal or external team members.
  • Meeting with guests for any upcoming radio shows beforehand to discuss the outline of the interview, as well as sufficiently preparing for any interviews.
  • Ensuring the smooth operation and running of your area of the station.
  • Having competence and confidence with the radio station’s broadcast & IT Systems, and asking for help when needed.
  • Ensuring that all shows consist of approximately 80% music and 20% speech.
  • Reading from a script, autocue or pre-provided notes with confidence.
  • Being fully aware of the stations key commitments and complying with these always.
  • Having a basic understanding of the Ofcom broadcasting code, and media compliance law.
  • Making every effort possible to attend monthly team meetings.
  • Making every effort possible to attend events and to support the station externally

  • A basic understanding of computer software & how audio hardware works

If you are looking to join our journalism or social media team, you will also need/be taught to,

  • Learn and maintain the house writing style
  • Excellent public communication skills
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office products
  • Be able to audit and proof read yours and other team members work
  • Have a basic understanding of social media (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok)
  • Play a vital role in the Northants 1 Team
