From Dinosaurs to Detectives: Plans Lodged for New Police Hub in Kettering Market Place

The days of prehistoric dining at the Market Place may be over, but a new kind of protection could soon be moving in. Plans have been officially submitted to transform the former Jurassic Grill into a visible, accessible police station for the heart of Kettering.

The move, proposed by the office of Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone, would see the force relocate from its current, “less visible” base in the town council’s car park on Bowling Green Road. If North Northamptonshire Council grants the green light, the new station will overlook the bustling Market Place, providing a high-profile presence intended to deter anti-social behaviour and improve community relations.

A “Significant Milestone” for Town Safety

For many residents, the return of a public-facing office in the town centre is a long-awaited development. Commissioner Danielle Stone described the proposal as a “significant milestone,” noting that a central base is key to rebuilding trust.

“People tell me that they want more visible policing in our town centres,” Stone stated. “I know that this helps rebuild trust and strengthen relationships.”

Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet echoed this sentiment, emphasising that placing officers where they are most needed is

“the right thing to do for the community and for policing.”

The goal is a public-facing base that allows staff to focus on tackling crime exactly where the community gathers.
