At Northants 1, we’re all about supporting the Northamptonshire community by offering exciting training and employment opportunities for young people, while helping shape the next generation of radio and TV presenters. 

Ever found yourself listening to the radio and wondering what it would be like to host your own radio show, or perhaps you see yourself as the next Scott Mills, Jordan North, or Fearne Cotton? If so, the Northants 1 Radio Training Academy is the perfect place for you to start! 

Our comprehensive 12-week training programme is designed for young people aged 13-18, giving you the chance to step into both community and commercial radio. You’ll pick up skills that are not just relevant for radio but can be used in many areas of life. Here’s a taste of what you’ll learn over the course of the programme: 

• Essential communication skills for any workplace, especially in customer service.

• Computer know-how, including Microsoft Office and top-tier radio software.

• Interviewing and production techniques that bring shows to life.

• How to plan, prepare, and present a radio show that meets professional standards.
  
  
• News and Weather production to a highly informative standard. 

• Microphone techniques and tips to keep your voice in perfect shape.

You’ll be guided by experienced radio presenters who know the ropes, including some who’ve even worked with the BBC. The curriculum is built by industry pros and overseen by the NN Media Executive Leadership Team. Expect hands-on experience in a real broadcasting environment, with practical sessions and classroom learning – all while making new friends and having a blast! 

After completing the 12-week programme, you’ll get the chance to take it up a notch by hosting your very own radio show. Under the guidance of our leadership team and current presenters, you’ll be on-air, continuing to receive live training, with the possibility of landing a permanent spot on the Northants 1 team!
