‘Clarity in Dusk’ is the third studio album by Northants’ based Stevie Jones and the Wildfires who
deliver their own unique blend of alternative rock centred around acoustic based song writing.
The first seeds of ‘Clarity In Dusk’ were sown during lockdown when Stevie wrote and released the
stripped down acoustic album ‘Come In From The Rain’ in 2020. Many of the songs were inspired by
walks in his local surrounding countryside including the fields and woods which were the creative force
behind the poems of ‘Peasant poet’ John Clare.
Once the band reconvened after the isolation of the pandemic, they began to carve out which songs
worked as a full band adding newer songs into the mix. Returning to Deadline Studio Leicester in early
2023 with producer Adam Ellis the 9 tracks laid down cover a wide variety of genres and themes.
Topically it covers a range of subjects including solace in nature, romance, domestic abuse, reflection
on ageing and loss and the current threat posed to the environment by the rapid overdevelopment of
the countryside.
There’s a raw alt folk rock honesty in the music where elements of New Model Army and The Levellers
can be sited but there’s also a melodic Americana influence in the guitar-led songs in some of the
arrangements. Elements of Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson which Stevie discovered during the
writing can be heard in some of the more progressive rock moments too.
Whilst all tracks are strong it is aimed to go against the grain of the current playlist generation and be
listened to as a whole album (maybe on a walk?) with all the songs hanging together as a solid body of
work.
‘Clarity In Dusk’ is scheduled for full international streaming release on Oct 13th, 2023, which ties in
with an album launch show at Mama Liz’s Stamford that evening,
A limited run of CDs will be available to fans from August.
