A 94th minute penalty from Nile Ranger ensured Kettering progress to the
third qualifying round of the FA Cup,
the tie was a closely fought contest, with Step 4 side Cleethorpes Town
proving to be more than a match for the Poppies.
But it was former Premier League striker Nile Ranger with the decisive
strike after he was fouled in the box, to notch his first goal back
in football after almost two years.
Poppies manager Richard Lavery said his side showed, “Signs of a good
team, when you play bad and win”.
He said, ” Our keepers made about three or four world class saves today,
you probably won’t see a better debut from a keeper without him today
we most likely lose that game”.
Kettering are now three games away from the first round proper
of the cup, with the draw for the fourth qualifying round taking place on
Monday evening.
