University students struggle with the cost of living and urge the government to make affordable solutions.
University life is all about becoming independent and finding your dream job after graduating but that all comes at a cost.
According to Save the Student, which interviewed over 1,000 students, they discovered that the average that the students spend is £1,104 a month.
Maintenance loans are only £600 a month as 58% of students have said it is not enough.
Shockingly, rent prices have increased to £540, £101 more than in 2023.
University students spend £51 going out, more than two times the amount spent on course materials.
It has come to a point that job opportunities are not being offered.
One student from the University of Northampton Emanual Wiwa has experienced this first hand.
“It is hard to find a job here (in Northampton) I have been here for nine months, and I cannot find a job.”
Northampton University are launching a student support initiative to combat the cost of living.
This includes energy-saving tips, housing support, a clothing swap shop and free exercise classes.
