The Bedford College Group is on a mission to help adults across North Northamptonshire build confidence in the digital world — and the best part? The courses are completely free for anyone aged 19 and over.
In a recent interview on Northants 1, Bridget Hall, Head of School for Learning Centres and Distance Education at The Bedford College Group, spoke passionately about why learning digital skills has never been more important.
Hear the interview:
“It’s not about age — it’s about confidence,” Bridget explained. “So many adults tell us they missed the boat with technology, or that they just couldn’t keep up. These courses are about giving people the chance to start again — to realise they can do it.”
The Essential Digital Skills courses are designed for anyone who wants to feel more confident using technology in everyday life — from sending emails and filling in online forms to managing documents or staying in touch with family. Whether it’s to improve job prospects, support children with homework, or simply learn something new, there’s something for everyone.
What makes the courses stand out is their flexibility. Learners can choose sessions that fit around their lifestyles — with a minimum of just two sessions per week, booked at times that suit them. Classes run not only during term time but all year round, giving adults the freedom to learn when it works best.
“We’ve built these courses around people’s lives,” Bridget said. “If someone works shifts, has kids, or just wants to come in when they have some spare time — we’ll find a slot that fits. We want learning to feel accessible, not like another commitment they have to juggle.”
Sessions are available across North Northamptonshire, located in the independent Learning Centres in Corby, Kettering, and Wellingborough, where learners can build skills in a friendly, supportive environment.
The aim is about more than just teaching technology — it’s about building confidence and community. Bridget and her team are passionate about helping adults reconnect with learning and with each other.
“We want to build small learning communities where no one feels left behind,” she added. “It’s incredible to see how proud people feel once they realise they can do something they thought they’d never be able to.”
For adults who’ve been out of education for a while, the message from The Bedford College Group is simple: just give it a try.
“It’s never too late to learn something new,” Bridget smiled. “You never know what doors it might open.”
