A by-election is set to take place on October 9th for the Lloyds and Corby Old Village seat on North Northamptonshire Council. The election was called following the recent resignation of the ward’s former councillor.

Five candidates have been confirmed to be standing, representing a mix of the main political parties. Each has put forward pledges to local voters in the campaign to secure the council seat.

The Candidates and Their Pledges
Geri Cullen (Labour), who is also a local town councillor, is a community volunteer and a mum of two. She has promised to tackle issues such as potholes and anti-social behaviour. She has also pledged to support local families fighting for answers regarding cancer rates and health inequalities in the area.

Alex Lock (Liberal Democrat), a parent of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), has announced his intention to be a champion for other SEND parents. He has also raised concerns about the lack of a knife bin in Corby and the need for better solutions to fly-tipping.

Lee Forster (Green), a long-time resident of Corby, has a history of environmental campaigning, particularly against planned incinerators in the town. He has stated his commitment to the local community, and recently began his campaign by helping to clean up a neglected area in Corby Old Village.

Lee Duffy (Reform UK) is a town councillor and a former football coach. He has previously stated his pride in his hometown, referencing the town’s motto, “Deeds not Words.”

Paul Byrne (Conservative) has been put forward as a candidate who will work hard for residents and bring a “professional and constructive approach” to the council.

The by-election will take place on Thursday 9th October, giving residents a chance to elect a new representative for the ward.
